- The course places an emphasis on grading with a 10x loupe and colour estimation by eye. This provides students with the best possible preparation for the day-to-day handling of diamonds in any area of the trade.
- The Certificate examination is identical to the Gem Diamond Diploma practical examination.
- The full Gem Diamond Diploma and DGA membership will be available to those Certificate holders who subsequently take the theory course and pass the Gem Diamond Diploma theory examination (Awards and Distinctions are only available to candidates who sit the theory exam within one year of the practical).

- Courses are run at Gem-A's London Headquarters over two weeks on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, with the examination on the Thursday. Course times are10 am to 4:30 pm each day.
- The Diamond Practical examination comprises one three-hour practical paper.
