Gem A’s high-level gemmology courses, the Foundation Certificate and the world-renowned Diploma in Gemmology, are of the highest gemmological education standard and are officially accredited in the UK. Within these courses, the stress is on practical observation right from the start. Practical self-reliance depends upon a thorough grounding in the theory and art of observing gem materials. This groundwork leads to organized and logical decision-making in the use of gem testing instruments, and in reaching careful and informed conclusions. The Foundation theory exam (two papers) includes a practical observation component. The Diploma comprises two theory exam papers and one practical exam. 

This educational approach prepares trade and non-trade graduates for the realities of the gem world and for high-level decision making when buying and selling, whether for business or hobby. Graduates of the Diploma include many of the world’s top store personnel, auctioneers, laboratory directors and appraisers. If you are not sure about taking a course, why not enrol for one of our taster workshops? ‘Allure of Gems’ and ‘Introduction to Gemmology’ give an overall view of the world of gemmology, both in a practical sense and a theoretical manner, under the guidance of our experienced tutors.
