Diamond Buying Guide
Diamond is the most desirable of all gemstones; its beauty and durability are without compare. Whether you are considering purchasing a diamond or wishing to improve your sales knowledge this workshop is ideal. An introduction to the four Cs - carat weight, clarity, colour and cut - this course provides the practical information required to enable you to make informed choices or to give sales advice.
Six Day Diamond Practical Certificate
This intensive, six day diamond grading course plus Certificate exam places a great emphasis on the use of the 10x lens. The course covers:
- Clarity grading using a 10x loupe
- Colour grading by eye
- Aspects of cut including symmetry and proportions
- Simulants and treatments
- Description of rough crystals
This course runs from Wednesday to Friday and the subsequent Monday to Wednesday with the examination held on the Thursday.

Three Day Advanced Diamond Grading
This concentrated three day certificated course will cover key areas of advanced diamond grading including:
- Use of the microscope to clarity grade and plot diamonds
- Colour grading and master stones
- Fluorescence grading
- Cut (measurements, proportions, symmetry and polish)
Applicants for this course must hold either the Gem-A Diamond Diploma or Diamond Grading Certificate. Students will be assessed through practical work during the course.
Short courses and workshops will be held at the Gem-A London headquarters from 10:00am to 4:30 pm, unless otherwise stated. Due to limited class sizes, early booking is recommended. If you would like to register for a workshop, please fill out a short courses and workshops booking form and return it with your payment to Gem-A.
For those booking as a student, you must quote your Gem-A student number when you make your booking. If you are a non Gem-A student, please provide the name of the institution you attend on your booking form and bring proof of student status with you to the workshop. If you do not bring proof of your student status (e.g. student ID), you will need to pay the difference for the standard price when you arrive.
